Mining thru the Maze that is Butte

Historically a mining town, tough times in the 1980's forever changed the economy and landscape that is Butte. However the community of Butte would not die. it has undergone a remarkable transition from a reliance on mining to a diverse population and industry mix. The busineses and tourism that expand here allow progress while maintaining its heritage Read on.

You an still find the ehtnic diversity and towering architecture and mining history, but with the renovations and tourism, we offer the following tips when visiting Butte,.

 Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will love that Butte is 10 miles from anywhere.  Great water and fishing recreation nearby in the famous Big Hole, and Beaver head rivers.  For hiking, there's the Beaverhead Forest and of course , take the trail up to visit Our Lady of hte Rockies, a permanent resident atop the  Continental Divide. 

Butte history is well preserved in the several museums .  From mining to moonshine, you'll find it here.  If you're feeling like "so much to do, so little time", hop on the Old No. 1 Trolley Tour Car for a two hour tour that will fill you in on the characters and characteristics of this city.

If you have kids in tow (and even if you don't) and time permits, you have to visit the historic and awesome Berkeley Pit.  he Berkeley Pit has a viewing stand allows visitors to fully appreciate the size of this former truck-operated open pit copper mine.berkeley pit

Shopping
Of course, what would a trip be without shopping?  Check out the many antique shops and find the treasures. within.  Books and Books hasa fully supply of reading material that will give you greater detail on Montana history.  Lastly, do NOT leave town without a visit to the Front Street Market, a gourmet food shop that combines gourmet food with a gracious, come, on in attitude.

Check out Cavanaughs Celtic which is based on the history of the predominantly Irish population that first made up Butte.
